Etsy

I made these bags a few years back with every intention of selling them on Etsy but never got around to it until now. I actually sold one already, yay! The Milan Bag shown above is hand knit with yarn from Missoni and lined with material from a vintage Emilio Pucci skirt. The skirt was unwearable due to a flaw on the material on one area, so I decided to reuse tsome of the material on the bag. Check out the bags I have for sale here!

Supermodel Blogger

Earlier this year a fellow model I used to do fashion shows with approached me to be interviewed for her amazing blog, Supermodel Blogger. Emily Sandberg, a gorgeous strawberry blonde, has graced the covers of international magazines and is now happily married with a beautiful son, living in Nashville, Tennessee. Her writing is fun and witty and I love how she shares her insider's view of the fashion world to the public. Here is the interview for your enjoyment!

Where did the time go?

Yikes. It has been over two years since my last post. I think I'm finally in a groove with life with my almost 3-year-old son. No, not really. Who am I kidding? I just needed to stop procrastinating, so here I am.

I have to admit I don't have anything earth-shattering to share in my first post of the year so I will just start posting retroactively some highlights of the last couple years plus some new stuff coming up. Enjoy! Oh, and here's a recent pic of Elijah and I, a snapshot of what I've been up to.

Catalina Island

Last month Gabe and I were hired to model for pictures Santa Catalina Island Company, produced by Fuze Group. We had a fantastic time with the amazing crew, who was so accommodating to our needs since we brought our little boy, and were fun to work with. It was great to sample a couple of different restaurants, lots of wine, and the different locations on Catalina that we wouldn't have otherwise explored if we had gone on our own. That's one of the things and perks I love about modeling is the discovery and experience of places I wouldn't have thought to check out or even afford. Here is a VIDEO of the behind-the-scenes shoot. There were five models total, including Gabe and I. At the end of the video are some photo stills from the shoot. I can't wait to go back another time for a weekend retreat!

airbnb

In my last post I wrote about an upcoming business trip to New York City that our little family is making this month. This meant we need to find a place to stay, something I was dreading since it is notoriously difficult, I mean next to impossible, to find a decent place in a good location for an affordable price. In the past and also this time, my go-to website to find a place was Craigslist. After perusing the listings for awhile, I realized that over HALF of the listings were scams! The biggest telltale sign was a disproportionally cheap nightly rate for a swanky apartment. Come on, $75 per night for a 3-bedroom loft in Tribeca? Riiiiiight......however, there were some that were pretty deceiving though. One was quite believable so I emailed them asking about availability and they responded right away addressing me as "Dear Sir/Ma" (no, really) saying it was available for the dates we needed it for but that we needed to "explicitly" follow the instructions in making the payment. It was mostly about paying them and nothing else, so that was another red flag. Delete.

I scoured and scoured different websites but to no avail. Finally I just did a search for a bed and breakfast in Brooklyn (I was desperate) and the first search result that came up was www.airbnb.com, and out of curiosity I clicked on the link. Lo and behold was an apartment searching experience that was like a breath of fresh air after choking on the city smog. How did I not hear about this website before?? Screw you Craigslist! Finally, honest listings, more pictures and a trustworthy and reliable system with no worry or hassle. On a side note, Roomarama is another similar website you can search for a place. So HERE is the amazing apartment in Park Slope that we'll be staying in!

I'm so excited because this will be the first time we'll really stay in the heart of the nice part of Brooklyn. There's a park directly across the street and lots of great places in the surrounding neighborhood. I'm really looking forward to exploring the area when we get there! My only regret is that we won't be staying longer, but perhaps next time.

Supreme Management

After a long hiatus from New York in order to have and raise a baby, I am going back there this month (along with my husband Gabe and our 10-month-old Elijah) with the hopes of revamping my career and seeing lots and lots of clients. Back in the 90's and early part of this last decade (way to date myself, Sierra!), it used to be that you could get a direct booking quite easily, meaning the client didn't even need to see you in person in order to book you for a job. But the economic climate has changed, and there isn't as much room for financial mistakes anymore for clients, so I must go to New York to see them face to face.

Part of the strategy in making a comeback with my career was changing agencies in New York. I am now with Supreme Management, the sister agency of Women Management. I am very excited because Michele Pryor, the Director of Supreme, will be the same booker I've been working with off and on for over 10 years (since I was with IMG). This makes the transition smooth and easy since we have such a good working relationship, not to mention her complete belief and support in me, something that is very crucial to have in any model-booker relationship yet often elusive.

Another strategic tact I've made, under Michele's advice and direction, was to change the color of my hair to a rich brunette. I'd been wanting to change my hair for so long, so I was delighted by the results!

If all goes well during the two weeks we'll be there, we may even consider relocating to New York City for awhile....something I sort of have mixed feelings about, but if it means earning a good living for awhile it will be well worth the extreme weather, crowded space, expensive cost of living and not-so-ideal city life for Elijah. Who knows, it might end up being a much better experience than I think. I can't help but want the best for my little guy. On the other hand, things are not so great work-wise on the west coast, so a change is in order, if only temporarily.

Terrace House Jacket for Fall

Continuing with the orange theme (I can't help it!), I just had to share with you a jacket I am lusting after for this fall. Called the Terrace House Jacket from Anthropologie, this vintage-style top with modernized ruffles echoes the Mad Men style that is all the rage but has a femininity to it. Though it also comes in beige and gray, I think the orange is a much more powerful (but not too much) statement and refreshing burst of color among the greys and blacks. Don't you love it, too?
